This page says what BTN36 Live TV, at btn36.com, keeps about you, why, for how long, and how to have it deleted. We keep as little as we can and we do not sell it or share it with advertisers.
What we keep
- Your account. Your name, your email address and how you sign in. With Google, that is the name, address and picture Google shares with us. With a password, the password is stored scrambled, so nobody can read it.
- Your favourite channels, so they follow you from one device to another.
- The devices you are signed in on: the kind of browser and when it was last used, so you and we can end a session you do not recognise.
- What is watched. Which channels and programmes are played, when, for how long, and how well: how long they took to start, pauses, skips, waits for data and errors. We also note when the channel list, on demand or a show page is opened. When you are signed in this is linked to your account. When you are not, it is linked to a random number kept in your browser, which says nothing about who you are. Of your browser we keep only whether it is a phone, tablet, computer or TV, and which browser it is.
We do not keep IP addresses with your account or with what you watch, and we use no outside analytics service. Our servers keep short technical logs for a few days to fix faults and stop abuse.
Why
To run your account and let you sign in. To keep the service working and safe. To count how many people watch and what they like, so we can choose what to show and plan for enough capacity. Nothing else.
Cookies and your browser
We set a cookie to keep you signed in and, while the site asks for a PIN, one to remember that you entered it. Your browser also keeps a few settings for this site, such as where you stopped in a programme and your favourites while you are signed out, and the random number above, used only to count viewing on this site. We can set that number to last only until you close the tab. There are no advertising cookies and nothing is shared with other sites. Videos from YouTube play from YouTube, and YouTube's own privacy policy covers those.
How long we keep it
- Your account and favourites: until you ask us to delete them.
- A sign in lasts 30 days unless you sign out sooner.
- Detailed viewing records (each play, pause and progress report): 30 days.
- Viewing summaries that can be linked to your account or your browser's random number: 90 days.
- Totals that cannot be traced back to anyone, such as minutes watched per channel per day: two years.
- Backups roll over within 30 days, so anything deleted is gone from them within that time.
Deleting your data
Email support@btn36.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We delete your account, your favourites and your sessions, and cut your viewing history loose from you, so that what you watched stays only in totals that cannot be traced back to you. We do this within 30 days and write back to say it is done. You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you.
